Hills need a transformation – by Pravesh Sharma

The famous and the renowned founder of an Indian Constitution Sir. Dr. B. R Ambedkar writes “Unlike a drop of water which losses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his being in the society in which he lives. Man’s life is independent. He is born not for the development of the society alone, but for the development of his self.” The following phrase does make sense in the present scenario of our Hills Situation.

Unknown fear of being treated as the third class citizen by the state administration. We Eco our voice for the betterment of our society but we never tend to develop ourselves in our thoughts, ideologies and principles. We are the people who want the change but still we do not want to change.

As far as concerned about an Identity crisis and development crisis which is an opposite poles, it doesn’t match each other. Development Crises cannot be meet by the Identity crises. The reason for the failure of pro longed Gorkhaland Agitation was that our thoughts, ideologies were divided into the party and the flag rather than it should have been united by the concern, trust and rising above the party and the flag. We are the people who blame others when everything goes wrong.

It happened same with us this time. First we were divided by the different cultural boards, than after party and flag. When a new born baby comes to the earth it brings nothing with the worm of mother, just an identity of a particular race, and then after he/she represents the culture, caste and other things, which will be given by the family members. When we travel on the other parts of India people don’t call us Chettri, Tamang, Rai, Limbo etc. but they see us as a Gorkhas. The main thing is that we are divided by many caste and races rather should be united by the spirit of Ethnicity.

The most urgent requirements of the hills is to develop ourselves, within us and then after around us so in further our identity issues may make sense. If we develop ourselves in our thoughts and of being doing, than somehow we can make a transformation. We don’t need change we need transformation. From many years we are just witnessing the Change but now it’s the time for the transformation.

Change will make a difference, but transformation will be witnessed. Our minds needs to be transformed not for an individual gain but for the upliftment of the Society and ethnic group for the complete Identity issue, it should be against the corruption, politics and against the divided community for the unity. The reformation is required, so we may witness the transformation in our society, as we can breathe free from the cage of our own thoughts and divided mind.
